His saying (Most High): "O you who have believed, let them ask your permission."
14786 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr reported to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah reported to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar reported to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding Allah's saying: "O you who have believed, let them ask your permission," he means: in your houses.
His saying (Most High): "Those whom your right hands possess."
14787 - al-Rabi‘ ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Ibn Wahb reported to us, Sulayman ibn Bilal informed us, from ‘Amr ibn Abi ‘Amr, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, that two men asked him about seeking permission regarding the three times of privacy that Allah commanded in the Quran. Ibn ‘Abbas said to them: "Indeed, Allah is All-Covering (Sittir) and loves covering. People used to have no curtains over their doors nor partitions (hijāl) in their houses, and a man’s servant, his son, or the orphan in his care might surprise him while he was with his wife. So, Allah commanded them to seek permission during those times of privacy that Allah named. Later, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) brought curtains and expanded their provisions, so they took up curtains and used partitions. Consequently, the people perceived that this had sufficed them from the seeking of permission they were commanded to do."
14788 - My father narrated to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Walid ibn Mihran al-Razi reported to us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl reported to us, from Isma‘il ibn Muslim, from ‘Amr ibn Dinar, from ‘Ata’ ibn Abi Rabah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, he said: "Satan has overcome the people regarding three verses from the Book of Allah: [the requirement of] seeking permission, and the [specific] times that Allah commanded: 'O you who have believed, let them ask your permission, those whom your right hands possess'—until the end of the verse."
14789 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr reported to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah reported to me, ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar reported to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, he said: Ibn ‘Abbas said: "The people have abandoned three verses and did not act upon them: 'O you who have believed, let them ask your permission, those whom your right hands possess and those who have not [yet] reached puberty among you...' until the end of the verse; and the verse in Surat al-Nisa': 'And when [other] relatives and orphans and the needy are present at the [time of] division, then provide for them [out of the inheritance]'; and the verse in al-Hujurat: 'Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.'"
