But he did not see him. When he returned to his midday nap and took his resting place, he (the devil) came to him and knocked on the door. He asked: "Who is this?" He replied: "The wronged, old man." He opened the door for him and said: "Did I not tell you, 'When you are free, come to me'?" He said: "They are the most vile of people. When they knew you were sitting, they said, 'We will give you your right,' but when you stood up, they denied me." He said: "Depart, and when I have finished my nap, come to me." He (the man) said: "The midday nap consumed him," and he departed, kept waiting for him, and did not see him. Sleep became difficult for him, so he said to some of his household: "Do not let anyone approach this door until I sleep, for sleep has become difficult for me." When it was that hour, he came to him. The man said to him: "Get back, get back!" He replied: "I came to him yesterday and mentioned my matter to him." He said: "No, by Allah, we have been ordered not to let anyone approach him." When he became frustrated, he looked and saw a small opening in the house, so he climbed through it and found himself inside. He was then knocking on the door from the inside. He (the man) woke up and said: "O so-and-so, did I not give you orders?" He said: "As for me, by Allah, I did not come in. Look where I came from!" He stood up and went to the door and found it closed just as he had locked it, and the man was with him inside the house. He recognized him and said: "Are you the enemy of Allah?" He said: "Yes. You exhausted me in every way, so I did what you see to make you angry." Allah named him Dhu al-Kifl (The Possessor of the Guarantee), because he guaranteed a matter and fulfilled it.

13703 - My father told us, Ahmad ibn Yunus told us, Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash told us, from al-A'mash, from Muslim, who said: Ibn Abbas said: "There was a judge in the Children of Israel who, when death approached him, said: 'Who will take my place on the condition that he does not get angry?'" A man said: "I," so he was called Dhu al-Kifl. He said: "He would spend the whole night in prayer, then wake up fasting and judge between the people. He had an hour in which he would nap. It remained that way, and Satan came to him during his nap time. His companions said: 'What is wrong with you?' He said: 'A poor man who has a right against a man, and he has overcome me regarding it.' They said: 'Stay as you are until he wakes up.'" He said: "And he was sleeping above." He said: "He began shouting intentionally in order to wake him up." He heard him and said: "What is wrong with you?" He said: "A poor man who has a right against a man." He said: "Go and tell him, 'Give him his due.'" He said: "He refused." He said: "Go you to him." He went, then came back the next day and said: "What is wrong with you?" He said: "I went to him, but he did not raise his head to your words." He said: "Go to him and tell him, 'Give him his right.'" He went, then came back the next day when he [the judge] said... his companions said to him: "Get out, may Allah do with you [what He will]! You come every day when he is sleeping, will you not let him sleep?" He began to shout: "Because I am a poor man, if I were rich...?" He heard him again and said: "What is wrong with you?" He said: "I went to him and he struck me." He said: "Walk until I come with you." He was holding his hand, and when he [the adversary] saw him walking with him, he withdrew his hand from him and fled."
