And Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, was with us, teaching some of us the Qur'an, when 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul came, accompanied by a small carpet and a woven mat. He placed them down and reclined. He was handsome and eloquent, and he said, "O Abu Bakr, tell Muhammad to bring us a sign just as the former ones came? Moses came with the Tablets, David came with the Psalms, Salih came with the She-Camel, and Jesus came with the Gospel and the Table Spread." Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, wept. Then the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came out. Abu Bakr said, "Rise with us to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, so that we may seek his help against this hypocrite." The Messenger of Allah said, "One does not stand up for me; one only stands up for Allah, the Exalted and Majestic." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we encountered such-and-such from this hypocrite." He replied, "Gabriel said to me: 'Go out and tell of the blessings Allah has bestowed upon you and the superiority with which you have been favored.' He brought me glad tidings that He sent me to the red and the black, commanded me to warn the Jinn, gave me His Book while I am unlettered, forgave my past and future sins, mentioned my name in the Adhan, supported me with the angels, granted me victory, placed terror in front of me, gave me Al-Kawthar, made my cistern one of the greatest cisterns on the Day of Resurrection, promised me the Praised Station while people are staring with their heads raised, placed me in the first group of people to emerge, admitted seventy thousand of my Ummah into Paradise through my intercession without reckoning, granted me authority and kingship, and placed me in the highest room in Paradise in the Gardens of Bliss, so there is no one above me except the angels who bear the Throne, and He made the spoils of war lawful for me, whereas they were not lawful for anyone before us."
The Statement of the Exalted: "Then, would they believe?"
13603 - From Mujahid regarding His statement: "Then, would they believe?" he said: They would attest to that.
The Statement of the Exalted: "And We did not make them bodies that did not eat food."
13604 - From Ibn Abbas regarding His statement: "And We did not make them bodies that did not eat food," he says: We did not make them bodies that would not eat food; rather, We made them bodies that eat food.
The Statement of the Exalted: "And they were not immortal."
13605 - From Qatadah regarding His statement: "And they were not immortal," he said: Death was inevitable for them, that they would die. Regarding His statement: "Then We fulfilled to them the promise," up to His statement: "And We destroyed the transgressors," he said: They are the polytheists.
