14933 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi reported to us, Hajjaj reported to us from Ibn Jurayj from Mujahid (1): "secretly," he said: In opposition (or evasion).
14934 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali reported to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported to us, Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf reported to us from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "Allah indeed knows those who slip away among you, secretly," he says: They are the hypocrites. The discourse on Friday was heavy upon them—meaning by "the discourse," the sermon—so they would hide behind some of the companions of Muhammad until they exited the mosque. It was not permissible for a man to exit the mosque on Friday after [the Imam] had begun the sermon except with permission from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). When one of them wanted to leave, he would signal with his finger to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he would grant him permission without the man speaking, because if a man spoke while the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was delivering the sermon, his Friday prayer would be invalidated.
14935 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali reported to us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat reported to us, Asbat reported to us from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "Allah indeed knows those who slip away among you, secretly," he said: When they were with him in a group, some of them would hide behind others until they were absent from him so that he would not see them.
14936 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad reported to us, Mihran reported to us from Sufyan: "Allah indeed knows those who slip away among you, secretly," he said: Fleeing.
