15185 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Uthman Abu al-Jumahir al-Tanukhi reported to us, Sa'id ibn Bashir reported to us, from Qatadah, who said: Between Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them) were four hundred years. Between Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them) were six hundred years. Between Noah and Adam (peace be upon them) was a thousand years, between Noah and Abraham (peace be upon them) was a thousand years, and between Abraham and Moses (peace be upon them) was a thousand years—meaning, a thousand years.

15186 - My father narrated to us, Musa ibn Ayyub al-Nasibi reported to us, Damrah reported to us, from 'Uthman ibn 'Ata', from his father, who said: Between the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and Adam are forty-nine ancestors.

15187 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Isma'il ibn Sa'id al-Ghalas reported to us, Ibrahim ibn Harasah reported to us, from Sufyan, from al-A'mash, who said: Between Moses and Jesus were a thousand prophets.

15188 - It was read to Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb informed us, Ibn Lahi'ah told me, from Abu al-Aswad, who said: I heard 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr say: We have not found anyone who knows what is beyond Ma'd ibn 'Adnan.

His saying, the Exalted: "And for each We presented examples."

15189 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray', Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And for each We presented examples, and each We ruined with utter destruction," [meaning] for each, Allah has provided an excuse and made clear to him, then He took retribution from him.

His saying, the Exalted: "And each We ruined with utter destruction."

15190 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tahrani informed us in what he wrote to me, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "And each We ruined with utter destruction," he said: Allah ruined everyone with punishment, a total destruction.

15191 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh informed us, who said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "And each We ruined with utter destruction," he said: We led astray those whom He led astray; they did not benefit from their religion in anything.
