His saying, the Almighty: "That, and whoever honors the symbols of Allah."

- From Ibn Abbas, regarding His saying: "That, and whoever honors the symbols of Allah," he said: "The sacrificial animals (al-budn)."

- From Ibn Abbas, regarding His saying: "That, and whoever honors the symbols of Allah," he said: "Regarding their fattening, choosing the best, and deeming them significant." And regarding His saying: "For you in them are benefits for a specified term," he said: "Their backs, their fur, their hair, and their wool, until they are designated as sacrificial animals (hadi). Once they are designated as sacrificial animals, those benefits cease. Then their place of sacrifice," he says, "is when it is designated toward the Ancient House."

- From al-Dahhak and Ata regarding this verse, they said: "The benefits in them are riding upon them when in need, and using their wool and milk. And the 'specified term' is until they are marked (as sacrificial), then they become sacrificial animals (budn). Then their place of sacrifice is toward the Ancient House." They both said: "Until the Day of Sacrifice, when they are slaughtered in Mina."

- From Muhammad ibn Musa, regarding His saying: "That, and whoever honors the symbols of Allah," he said: "Standing at Arafah is from the symbols of Allah, the gathering (at Muzdalifah) is from the symbols of Allah, the sacrificial animals are from the symbols of Allah, the pelting of the stones is from the symbols of Allah, and the shaving [of the head] is from the symbols of Allah. So whoever honors them, for indeed they are from the piety of hearts. 'For you in them are benefits for a specified term,' he said: 'You have benefits in every one of those symbols until you exit it to another. Then their place of sacrifice is toward the Ancient House,' he said: 'The place for all these symbols is the circumambulation of the Ancient House.'"

His saying, the Almighty: "And for every nation, We have appointed a rite."

- From Ibn Abbas, regarding His saying: "And for every nation, We have appointed a rite (mansakan)," he said: "An Eid (festival)."

- From Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And for every nation, We have appointed a rite," he said: "The shedding of blood."

- From Ikrimah, regarding "And for every nation, We have appointed a rite," he said: "A slaughtering."

- From Zayd ibn Aslam, that he said regarding this verse, "And for every nation, We have appointed a rite," that it is Makkah; Allah has never appointed a rite for any nation other than it."
