14182 - Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn Mansur narrated to us, 'Ikrimah narrated to us, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: "When this verse was revealed: 'And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses...' to the end of the verse, Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah said: 'Was it revealed like this? If I found a man with my wife, it is not for me to move him or provoke him until I bring four witnesses? By Allah, I would not bring four witnesses until he had finished his business.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then said: 'O assembly of the Ansar, do you not hear what your master says?' They replied: 'O Messenger of Allah, do not blame him, for he is a man of great jealousy. By Allah, he never married among us except a virgin, and he never divorced a wife and a man among us dared to marry her out of his intense jealousy.' Sa'd said: 'By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I know that it is the truth and that it is from Allah, but I was astonished.' While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was in that state, Hilal ibn Umayyah al-Waqifi—who was one of those whom Allah forgave—came and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I came last night at the time of 'Isha from a garden of mine that I was in, and I saw a man with my wife. I saw him with my own eyes and heard him with my own ears.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) disliked what he had brought. It was said: 'Will Hilal be flogged and his testimony in the Muslim community invalidated?' Hilal said: 'O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I see on your face that you dislike what I have brought, and I hope that Allah will provide a way out.' He said: 'While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was like that, the revelation descended upon him. Whenever the revelation descended upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), his body and face would turn ashen, and his companions would hold back from him, and none of them would speak to him. When the revelation was lifted, he said: 'Rejoice, O Hilal.' The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then said: 'Call her.' She was called, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Allah knows that one of you is a liar, so is there a repentant one among you?' Hilal said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have said nothing but the truth, and I have spoken truly.' At that, she said: 'He has lied.' He said: 'It was said to Hilal: Testify four times by Allah that you are indeed of the truthful.' And it was said to him at the fifth: 'O Hilal, fear Allah, for the punishment of Allah is more severe than the punishment of men, and this is the binding one which obligates the punishment upon you.' He said: 'By Allah, Allah will never punish me for it, just as He did not have me flogged for it.' So he testified the fifth time that the curse of Allah be upon him if he were of the liars. It was said to her: 'Testify four times by Allah that he is indeed of the liars.' And it was said to her at the fifth: 'O woman, fear Allah, for the punishment of Allah is more severe than the punishment of men, and this is the binding one which obligates the punishment upon you.' She hesitated for a moment, then said: 'By Allah, I will not disgrace my people.'"
١٤١٨٢ - حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ: وَالَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ الْمُحْصَنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ إِلَى آخِرِ الآيَةِ، فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ: أهكذا أنزلت؟ فلو وجدت لكاع مُتَفَخِّذَهَا رَجُلٌ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِي أَنْ أُحَرِّكَهُ، ولا أهيجه حتى آتي بأربعة شهداء، فو الله لَا آتِي بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ حَتَّى يَقْضِيَ حَاجَتَهُ، فقال رسول صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَا مَعْشَرَ الأَنْصَارِ أَلا تَسْمَعُونَ مَا يَقُولُ سَيِّدُكُمْ فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَا تَلُمْهُ، فَإِنَّهُ رَجُلُ غَيُورٌ، وَاللَّهِ مَا تَزَوَّجَ فِينَا قَطُّ إِلا عَذْرَاءَ، وَلا طَلَّقَ امْرَأَةً قَطُّ فَاجْتَرَأَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَهَا مِنْ شِدَّةِ غَيْرَتِهِ، فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ: وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَعْلَمُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنَّهَا لَحَقٌّ، وَأَنَّهَا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ، وَلَكِنْ عَجِبْتُ، فَبَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَذَلِكَ، إِذْ جَاءَ هِلالُ بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ الْوَاقِفِيُّ، وَهُوَ أَحَدُ الَّذِينَ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي جِئْتُ الْبَارِحَةَ عِشَاءً مِنْ حَائِطٍ لِي كُنْتُ فِيهِ، فَرَأَيْتُ عِنْدَ أَهْلِي رَجُلا، وَرَأَيْتُهُ بِعَيْنَيَّ وَسَمِعْتُهُ بِأُذُنَيَّ، فَكَرِهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا جَاءَ بِهِ، فَقِيلَ: أَيُجْلَدُ هِلالٌ وَتَبْطُلُ شَهَادَتُهُ فِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَ هِلالٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ. وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَرَى فِي وَجْهِكَ أَنَّكَ تَكْرَهُ مَا جِئْتُ بِهِ، وَإِنِّي لأَرْجُو أَنْ يَجْعَلَ اللَّهُ فَرَجًا، قَالَ: فَبَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَذَلِكَ إِذْ نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْوَحْيُ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ الْوَحْيُ تَرَبَّدَ لِذَلِكَ جَسَدُهُ وَوَجْهُهُ، وَأَمْسَكَ عَنْهُ أَصْحَابُهُ، فَلَمْ يُكَلِّمْهُ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ، فَلَمَّا رُفِعَ الْوَحْيُ، قَالَ: أَبْشِرْ يَا هِلالُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:
ادْعُوهَا، فَدُعِيَتْ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ أَحَدَكُمَا كَاذِبٌ، فَهَلْ مِنْكُمَا تَائِبٌ؟ فَقَالَ هِلالٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَا قُلْتُ إِلا حَقًّا، وَلَقَدْ صَدَقْتُ، فَقَالَتْ هِيَ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ: كَذَبَ، قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لِهِلالٍ اشْهَدْ أَرْبَعَ شَهَادَاتٍ بِاللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ، وَقِيلَ لَهُ عِنْدَ الْخَامِسَةِ، يَا هِلالُ اتَّقِ اللَّهَ، فَإِنَّ عَذَابَ اللَّهِ أَشَدُّ مِنْ عَذَابِ النَّاسِ، وَإِنَّ هَذِهِ الْمُوجِبَةُ الَّتِي تُوجِبُ عَلَيْكَ الْعَذَابَ، فَقَالَ: وَاللَّهِ لَا يُعَذِّبُنِي اللَّهُ عَلَيْهَا أَبَدًا كَمَا لَمْ يجلدني عليها، فشهد الخامسة أن لعنت اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ، فَقِيلَ له، اشْهَدِي أَرْبَعَ شَهَادَاتٍ بِاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ، وَقِيلَ لَهَا عِنْدَ الْخَامِسَةِ: يَا هَذِهِ اتَّقِي اللَّهَ فَإِنَّ عَذَابَ اللَّهِ أَشَدُّ مِنْ عَذَابِ الناس، وإن هذه الموجبة التي توجب عليك الْعَذَابَ، فَتَلَكَّأَتْ سَاعَةً، ثُمَّ قَالَتْ: وَاللَّهِ لَا أفضح قومي،
