His saying, the Exalted: "We shall say to his guardian."

16476 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "Then we shall say to his guardian"—meaning the kin of Salih—"We did not witness the destruction of his family, and we are indeed truthful."

His saying, the Exalted: "We did not witness the destruction of his family, and we are indeed truthful."

16477 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd informed me in what he wrote to me: My father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "We did not witness the destruction of his family, and we are indeed truthful," they are those who hamstrung the she-camel. When they hamstrung her, they said: Let us attack Salih and his family by night and kill them, then we shall say to the guardians of Salih: We did not witness any of this, and we have no knowledge of it. Then Allah destroyed them all.

His saying, the Exalted: "And they planned a plan."

16478 - Abu Abd Allah al-Tehrani informed us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding the saying of Allah: "And they planned a plan," while they were hastening toward Salih—meaning they were hurrying to him—Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, sent a rock [upon them] and it killed them.

16479 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah who said: "And they planned a plan": He said: Their plan which they intended against Salih. And his saying: "And We planned a plan," he said: The plan of Allah by which He planned against them was that He cast a rock upon them and it crushed them.

His saying, the Exalted: "And they do not perceive."

16480 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj informed me, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding the saying of Allah: "And they planned a plan, and We planned a plan, while they do not perceive": So We planned, and We were aware of their planning.

His saying, the Exalted: "So look at how was the consequence of their plan."

16481 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "So look at how was the consequence of their plan," he said: An evil [consequence], by Allah. The consequence of their plan was that Allah destroyed them and their people all together, then consigned them to the Fire.
