The second: Their faces turned yellow, and they began to meet one another and say: 'O so-and-so, what is wrong with your face, it has become black?'
Until they became certain of the punishment; they prepared their incense (hanut), shrouded themselves, and remained in their houses. He said: Then Gabriel shouted at them a single shout, and their souls departed.
'Isa said: It reached me that their incense was myrrh, because it lasts.
15881 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, [saying]: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salamah narrated to us, [saying]: Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq [who] said: Salih came to them, and when he saw that the she-camel had been hamstrung, he wept and said: 'You have violated the sanctity of Allah, so receive tidings of the punishment of Allah and His vengeance.' He said: And they were mocking him: 'And when will that be, O Salih? And what is the sign of that?' They used to name the days among them: Sunday as 'Awwal', Monday as 'Ahwan', Tuesday as 'Dibar', Wednesday as 'Jubar', Thursday as 'Mu'nis', Friday as 'al-'Arubah', and Saturday as 'Shiyar'. They had hamstrung the she-camel on Wednesday, so Salih said to them when they said that: 'You will wake up on the morning of Mu'nis, the day of Thursday, with your faces yellow; you will wake up on the day of al-'Arubah, meaning Friday, with your faces red; then you will wake up on the day of Shiyar, meaning Saturday, with your faces black; then the punishment will reach you on the first day, meaning Sunday.'
His saying (the Almighty): "Indeed, in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful." Its interpretation has preceded.
15882 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Subh al-Dimashqi narrated to us, [saying]: Marwan ibn Muhammad narrated to us, [saying]: Khalid ibn Zayd ibn Subayh narrated to us, from Yunus ibn Maysarah ibn Jalbas, from Abu Idris al-Khawlani [who] said: I heard Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: 'Indeed, 'Ad filled everything between Aden and Oman with horses, men, and livestock. They disobeyed Allah, so He destroyed them. So who will buy their legacy for these two sandals of mine?'
'Indeed, Thamud filled everything between the trees and the stones with horses, men, and livestock. They disobeyed Allah, so He destroyed them. So who will buy their legacy from me for these two sandals of mine?' Then he says to himself: 'There is no one.'
His saying (the Almighty): "The people of Lot denied the messengers."
15883 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying]: Ishaq ibn Mansur al-Saluli narrated to us, from al-Hakam ibn 'Abd al-Malik, from Qatadah [who] said: The village of Lot, when Gabriel (peace be upon him) lifted it up,
