away from My worship, My sovereignty, and My lordship. Woe, great woe, on that day, to him whose lies have destroyed his truthfulness before Me. Woe, great woe, on that day, to him whose misguidance has invalidated My right. Woe, great woe, on that day, to him whose argument has been refuted before Me.
His saying, Exalted is He: "Then they knew that the truth was for Allah"
Meaning: Justice.
His saying, Exalted is He: "And they strayed from them"
17073 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "And they strayed from them"—on the Day of Resurrection—what they used to invent, what they used to lie about in the world.
His saying, Exalted is He: "Indeed, Qarun was from the people of Moses"
17074 - Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Harawi narrated to us, Muhadir narrated to us, al-A‘mash narrated to us, from al-Minhal, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: "Indeed, Qarun was from the people of Moses," he said: He was his cousin.
17075 - Ahmad ibn Yahya ibn Malik al-Susi al-Samiri narrated to us, ‘Abd al-Wahhab al-Khaffaf narrated to us, from Sa‘id, from Qatadah, who said: Qarun was the cousin of Moses, the brother of his father, and he had crossed the sea with the Children of Israel. He was called 'al-Munawwar' (the illuminated one) because of the beauty of his voice in reciting the Torah. However, the enemy of Allah became a hypocrite just as the Samiri became a hypocrite, so Allah destroyed him for his insolence. He only became insolent toward them due to the abundance of his wealth and his children. Allah said: "Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him of generations..."
It was narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal, Ibrahim al-Nakha‘i, and Simak ibn Harb that they said: He was the cousin of Moses.
His saying, Exalted is He: "But he behaved insolently towards them"
[The first interpretation]
17076 - Abu Sa‘id ibn Yahya ibn Sa‘id al-Qattan narrated to us, Yahya ibn Ghassan ibn ‘Isa al-Ramli narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, from al-Minhal ibn ‘Amr, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: Moses used to say to the Children of Israel: "Indeed, Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, commands you to do such and such," until he interfered in their wealth. And Moses claimed that his Lord commanded him, regarding one who commits adultery, to stone him. So they said: "Let us set something up for a prostitute of the Children of Israel. If Moses says: 'His Lord commanded regarding one who commits adultery that he be stoned,'"
