the Most Merciful: Settle the claims against My servant. They will say: How can we settle them for him? He will say to them: Take for them from his good deeds. They will continue to take from them until no good deed remains for him, and yet there still remain those who have claims of injustice. He will say: Settle the claims against My servant. They will say: How can we settle them for him? He will say to them: Take for them from his good deeds. They will continue to take from them until no good deed remains for him, and yet there still remain those who have claims of injustice. He will say: Settle the claims against My servant. They will say: No good deed remains for him. He will say: Take from their evil deeds and load them upon him. Then the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, cited this noble verse: "And they will surely carry their own burdens, and other burdens along with their own burdens, and they will surely be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about what they used to invent."
17187 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ reported to us, he said: I heard Sa‘id, from Qatadah, regarding: "And they will surely carry their own burdens," meaning: their sins.
His saying, the Exalted: "And other burdens along with their own burdens."
17188 - Through the same chain, from Qatadah, regarding: "And other burdens along with their own burdens," meaning: the sins of those whom they led astray.
17189 - Abu ‘Abd Allah al-Tehrani informed me in what he wrote to me, ‘Abd al-Razzaq reported to us, Ma‘mar reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And they will surely carry their own burdens, and other burdens along with their own burdens," he said: Whoever calls a people to misguidance shall bear the like of their sins without diminishing their own sins in the least.
His saying, the Exalted: "And they will surely be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about what they used to invent."
17190 - Ahmad ibn Abi al-Hawari narrated to us, Abu Bishr al-Hadhdha’ reported to us, from Abu Hamzah al-Baysan, from Mu‘adh ibn Jabal, he said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to me: "O Mu‘adh, the believer will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about everything, even about the kohl in his eyes and about the speck of dirt on his fingers, so let me not find you coming on the Day of Resurrection while someone else is happier with what Allah has given you than you are."
[His saying, the Exalted: "Invent"]
[The first interpretation]
17191 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Minjab reported to us, Bishr ibn ‘Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Invent," he said: What they used to lie about in the world.
(1). Meaning, he cited the verse as evidence. (2). Ibn Kathir said: This hadith has a supporting evidence in the Sahih from other than this chain (6/277). (3). In Tafsir Ibn Kathir it is (al-Thumali) 6/277.
