the closest kindred.
He said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) came to a crag of a mountain and ascended its highest rock, then called out: "O family of 'Abd Manaf, I am the warner. My example is like that of a man who went to look for his people, and when he saw the enemy, he feared they would get ahead of him, so he began to call out or shout: 'O morning calamity! O morning calamity!'."
16014 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: 'Ali ibn Ma'bad al-Basri narrated to us, [saying]: 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Amr narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Umayr, from Musa ibn Talhah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: When this verse was revealed, "And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred," the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) gathered [the tribe of] Quraysh and his uncle, then said: "O assembly of Quraysh, save yourselves from the Fire, for I possess no power over any harm or benefit for you. O assembly of Banu Qusay, warn yourselves from the Fire, for I possess no power over any harm or benefit for you. O assembly of Banu 'Abd Manaf, save yourselves from the Fire, for I possess no power over any harm or benefit for you. O assembly of Banu Hashim, save yourselves from the Fire, for I possess no power over any harm or benefit for you. O assembly of Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib, save yourselves from the Fire, for I possess no power over any harm or benefit for you; except that you have a kinship which I will sustain with its due [right]."
16015 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: al-Husayn ibn 'Isa ibn Maysarah al-Harithi narrated to us, [saying]: 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Quddus narrated to us, [saying]: al-A'mash ibn 'Amr narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn al-Harith, who said: 'Ali said: When this verse was revealed, "And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred," the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to me: "Prepare for me a leg of mutton with a sa' of food, and we have a vessel containing some milk." He said to me: "Fill it with milk." He said: So I did. Then he said to me: "Invite Banu Hashim." He said: So I invited them, and on that day they were forty men or forty and one men. He said: And among them were ten, every one of whom would eat the young sheep with its broth. He said: When they brought the bowl, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) took from its peak, then said to them: "Eat." So they ate until they were full, and it remained in its original state, having consumed but very little of it. He said: Then I brought them the vessel and they drank until they were quenched, and there was some left over. When they had finished, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) intended to speak, but they beat him to it with speech and said: "We have not seen the like of what we have seen today in terms of magic." He said: So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was silent. Then he said to me: "Prepare for me a leg of mutton with a sa' of food." He said: So he invited them, and when they ate and drank, they beat him to it, then said the same as their first statement. He said: So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was silent. He said: "Prepare for me a leg of mutton with a sa' of food." So I prepared it, and he gathered them. When they had eaten and drank, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) beat them to the speech [and said]:
الأَقْرَبِينَ
قَالَ: أَتَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صِمَّةً مِنْ جَبَلٍ، فَعَلا أَعْلاهَا حَجَرًا ثُمَّ نَادَى: يَا آلَ عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ أَنَا النَّذِيرُ إِنَّمَا مَثَلِي مِثَلُ رَجُلٍ ذَهَبَ يَرْبُوا أَهْلَهُ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى الْعَدُوَّ خَشِيَ أَنْ يَسْبِقُوهُ جَعَلَ يُنَادِي أَوْ يَهْتِفُ يَا صَبَاحَاهُ، يَا صَبَاحَاهُ.
١٦٠١٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الأَقْرَبِينَ جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- قُرَيْشًا وَعَمَّهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا مَعْشَرَ قُرَيْشٍ: أَنْقِذُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ مِنَ النَّارِ فَإِنِّي لا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلا نَفْعًا، يَا مَعْشَرَ بَنِي قُصَيٍّ أَنْذِرُوا! أَنْفُسَكُمْ مِنَ النَّارِ فَإِنِّي لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا يَا مَعْشَرَ بَنِي عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ: أَنْقِذُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ مِنَ النَّارِ فَإِنِّي لا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلا نَفْعًا يَا مَعْشَرَ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ: أَنْقِذُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ مِنَ النَّارِ فَإِنِّي لا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلا نَفْعًا يَا مَعْشَرَ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ أَنْقِذُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ مِنَ النَّارِ فَإِنِّي لا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلا نَفْعًا إِلا أَنَّ لَكُمْ رَحِمًا سَأَبُلُّهَا بِبَلالِهَا.
١٦٠١٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ الْحَارِثِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْقُدُّوسِ، ثنا الأَعْمَشُ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ: قَالَ عَلِيُّ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الأَقْرَبِينَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- اصْنَعْ لِي رِجْلَ شَاةٍ بِصَاعٍ مِنْ طَعَامٍ وَعِنْدَنَا إِنَاءٌ يَكُونُ فِيهِ لَبَناً فَقَالَ لِي: امْلأْهُ لَبَنًا، قَالَ: فَفَعَلْتُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي: ادْعُ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ قَالَ: فَدَعَوْتُهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمْ يومئذ لأربعين رجل أو أربعين وَرَجُلٌ، قَالَ: وَفِيهِمْ عَشْرَةٌ كُلُّهُمْ يَأْكُلُ الْجَذَعَةَ بإدامها قال: فلما أتوا بِالْقَصْعَةِ قَالَ: أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- مِنْ ذُرْوَتِهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ: كُلُوا فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا وَهِيَ كَهَيْئَتِهَا لَمْ يَرْزِئُوا مِنْهَا إِلا يَسِيرًا قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُمْ بِالإِنَاءِ فَشَرِبُوا حَتَّى رَوَوْا قَالَ: وَفَضَلَ فَضْلٌ، فلما فراغوا أَرَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- أَنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ فَبَدَرُوهُ بِالْكَلامِ، فَقَالُوا: مَا رَأَيْنَا كاليوم في السحر قال: فسكت رسول- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي: اصْنَعْ لِي رِجْلَ شَاةٍ بِصَاعٍ مِنْ طَعَامٍ قَالَ: فَدَعَاهُمْ فَلَمَّا أَكَلُوا وَشَرِبُوا قَالَ: فَبَدَرُوهُ ثُمَّ قَالُوا: مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِمُ الأُولَى قَالَ: فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: اصْنَعْ لِي رِجْلَ شَاةٍ بِصَاعٍ مِنْ طَعَامٍ فَصَنَعْتُ، قَالَ:
فَجَمَعَهُمْ فَلَمَّا أَكَلُوا وَشَرِبُوا بَدَرَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ- الْكَلامَ،
