To test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful. And whoever is grateful - his gratitude is only for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, my Lord is Free of need and Generous." He said: He glorified Allah before it, and he was not insolent nor arrogant; had he not said it, the earth would have swallowed him up.

His saying, the Exalted: "Said he, 'Disguise for her her throne.'"

16409 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Suwayd ibn Sa'id narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Mushir narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from al-Minhal ibn 'Amr, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "Disguise for her her throne, [so] we may see whether she will be guided or will be of those who are not guided." So its settings, its fittings, and whatever was upon it was removed. It was said to her: "Is your throne like this?" She said: "It is as if it were it."

16410 - My father narrated to us, Sa'id ibn Sulayman narrated to us, 'Abbad ibn al-'Awwam narrated to us, from Sufyan ibn Husayn, from al-Hakam, from Mujahid regarding "Disguise for her her throne," he said: He ordered the throne [to be altered], so what was red was made green, and what was green was made red; everything of it was changed from its state.

16411 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding his saying: "Disguise for her her throne," he said: Change it.

16412 - My father narrated to us, Isma'il ibn Hafs al-Irbili narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Isma'il, from Abu Salih regarding "Disguise for her her throne," he said: Place in it the image of a fish.

16413 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Abu Sa'd, from 'Ikrimah regarding his saying: "Disguise for her her throne," he said: Add to it and decrease from it.

16414 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwazi narrated to us, Shayban ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Tamimi narrated to us, from Qatadah who said: "Disguise for her her throne." Its disguise is that its bottom be made its top, its front its back, and that it be increased or decreased.

His saying, the Exalted: "We may see."

16415 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd ibn 'Atiyyah informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "Disguise for her her throne, we may see," he said: "So that we may see her intelligence." And she was found to be of sound intellect.
