in a vessel of brass, and he performed ablution. It is agreed upon(15). Abu Dawud narrated in his "Sunan"(16) from Aisha, who said: "I used to perform ghusl, I and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), from a vessel of shabah (brass-like alloy)(17)." This is because the original status is permissibility, so it remains upon that.

It is not valid to draw an analogy between this and precious metals for two reasons:

First, this is not known except to the elite, so the hearts of the poor are not broken by its use, unlike precious metals.

Second, these gems, due to their scarcity, are rarely used to make vessels, so their permissibility does not lead to their widespread adoption and usage. The prohibition is attached to precious metals, which are likely to be found in abundance, so it does not extend beyond them, just as the prohibition in clothing was attached to silk, while it is permissible to use garments woven with gold or silver thread (qasab), even if their value exceeds the value of silk. And if one were to set his ring with a precious stone, it would be permissible, whereas a gold ring is forbidden; and if he were to set it with gold, it would be forbidden, even if its value were small.

13 - Issue: He said: (The wool of a dead animal and its hair are pure). This means the hair and wool of that which was pure in its life, and it has been narrated from al-Hasan, Ibn Sirin, and the companions of Abdullah, who said: "When it is washed." This is also the view of Malik, al-Layth ibn Sa'd, al-Awza'i, Ishaq, Ibn al-Mundhir, and the scholars of opinion (Ashab al-Ra'y).
