and intensified, in the absence of water during travel; because of what Ibn Mas'ud narrated, that he was with the Messenger of Allah -may Allah bless him and grant him peace- on the night of the Jinn, and he wanted to perform the Fajr prayer, so he said: "Do you have any wudu water (wudu')?" He said: "No, I have a waterskin containing nabidh." He said: "A good date and pure water (26)."
As for us, we have the words of Allah the Almighty: {If you do not find water, then perform tayammum} (27). This is an explicit text (nass) regarding turning to soil when water is absent. The Prophet -may Allah bless him and grant him peace- said: "The pure soil (sa'id) (28) is the wudu of the Muslim, even if he does not find water for ten years." Reported by Abu Dawud (29). Furthermore, because it is not permissible to perform wudu with it while residing, or when (30) water is present, it is therefore analogous to vinegar and broth. Their hadith is not established; its narrator, Abu Zayd, is unknown to the scholars of hadith. No other hadith is known from him, and he is not known for being a companion of 'Abd Allah. This was stated by al-Tirmidhi (31) and Ibn al-Mundhir (32). It has been narrated from Ibn Mas'ud that he was asked: "Were you with the Messenger of Allah -may Allah bless him and grant him peace- on the night of the Jinn?" He replied: "None of us was with him." Reported by Abu Dawud (33). Muslim also narrated with his chain of transmission from Ibn Mas'ud that he said: "I was not with the Messenger of Allah -may Allah bless him and grant him peace- on the night of the Jinn, and I wish I had been with him (34)."
