He said: "I will assist him with a basket (araq) of dates." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I will assist him with another basket." He said: "You have done well. Go and feed sixty poor persons on his behalf, then return to your cousin." Al-Asma'i said: "The 'araq', with a fathah on the 'ayn and the ra', is what is woven from palm leaves, like a large basket." He also narrated, with his chain of transmission from Sulayman bin Yasar, from Salamah bin Sakhr al-Bayadi, who said: "I used to have such relations with women as no one else had. When the month of Ramadan entered, I feared that I might have relations with my wife that would continue until morning, so I practiced Zihar against her until the month of Ramadan passed. One night, while she was serving me, a part of her body was revealed to me, and I could not resist mounting her. When morning came, I went out to my people and told them what had happened, and I said: 'Walk with me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).' They said: 'No, by Allah.' So I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and told him the story. He said: 'Are you the one who did that, O Salamah?' I replied: 'I am the one who did that, O Messenger of Allah, and I am patient for the judgment of Allah, so judge regarding me as Allah shows you.' He said: 'Free a slave.' I said: 'By the One who sent you with the truth, I do not possess any slave other than her,' and I struck the side of my neck. He said: 'Then fast for two consecutive months.' I said: 'Have I only fallen into what I fell into because of fasting?' He said: 'Then feed a wasq of dates to sixty poor persons.' قال: "فإنِّى (٨) سأُعِينُه بِعَرَقٍ مِن تَمْرٍ". فقلتُ: يا رسولَ اللَّهِ، فإنِّى أُعينُه بعرقٍ آخَرَ. قال: "قَدْ أحْسَنْتِ، اذْهَبِى فَأطْعِمِى عَنْهُ سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا، وارْجِعِى إلَى ابْنِ عَمِّكِ". قال الأصْمَعِىُّ: العَرَقُ، بفتح العَيْنِ والرَّاءِ: هو ما سُفَّ (٩) مِن خُوصٍ، كالزِّنْبِيلِ الكبيرِ. ورَوَى أيضًا (١٠)، بإسنادِه عن سليمانَ بن يَسارٍ، عن سَلَمَةَ بنِ صَخْرٍ الْبَياضِىِّ، قال: كنتُ أُصِيبُ من النِّساءِ ما لا يُصيبُ غيرى، فلمَّا دَخَلَ شهرُ رمضانَ، خِفْتُ أَنْ أُصيبَ من امرأتى شيئًا يتَتايَعُ (١١) حتى أُصْبِحَ، فظاهَرْتُ مِنها حتَّى يَنْسَلِخَ شهرُ رمضانَ، فبيْنا هى تَخدِمُنى ذاتَ لَيْلَةٍ، إذْ تَكَشَّفَ لى منها شىءٌ، فلم أَلْبَثْ أن نَزَوْتُ عليها، فلمَّا أصبحتُ خَرَجْتُ إلى قومى، فأخبرتُهم الخبرَ، وقلتُ: امْشُوا معى إلى رسولِ اللَّهِ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم-. قالوا: لا واللَّهِ. فانْطَلقْتُ إلى النَّبِىِّ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم-، فأخبرتُه الخَبَرَ, فقال: "أَنْتَ بِذَاكَ يا سَلَمَةُ؟ " (١٢). فقلتُ: أنا بذاكَ يا رسولَ اللَّهِ، وأنا صابِرٌ لحكمِ اللَّهِ، فاحْكُمْ فىَّ ما أراكَ اللَّهُ. قال: "حَرِّرْ رَقَبَةً". قلتُ: والَّذِى بَعَثَكَ بالحقِّ ما أمْلِكُ رَقَبَةً غيرَها. وضَرَبْتُ صَفْحَةَ رَقَبَتِى. قال: "فَصُمْ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ". قلتُ: وهل أَصَبْتُ الَّذى أصَبْتُ إلَّا مِن الصِّيامِ؟ . قال: "فَأطْعِمْ وَسْقًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ بَيْن سِتِّينَ مِسْكِينًا". قلتُ: والذى بعَثك بالحقِّ، لقد بِتْنا وَحْشَيْنِ (١٣)، ما لنَا طَعامٌ. قال: "فَانْطَلِقْ إلَى صَاحِبِ صَدَقَةِ بَنِى زُرَيْقٍ، فَلْيَدْفَعْهَا إلَيْكَ". قال: "فَأطْعِمْ
