from this tree, let him not approach us until its odor has gone." So I came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, let me give you my hand." He said: "I put his hand into my shirt sleeve up to my chest, and I found myself with my chest bandaged." He said: "You have a valid excuse." Narrated by Abu Dawud (28). It has been narrated from Ahmad that one is sinful [for eating it]; because the apparent meaning of the prohibition is forbiddenness, and because harming the Muslims is forbidden, and this contains harm to them.
Section: It is disliked to eat the gland and the ear of the heart (29); because it was narrated from Mujahid who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) disliked six things from the sheep, and he mentioned these two (30). And because the soul finds them repulsive and considers them impure, and I do not think Ahmad disliked them except for that reason, not for the report; because he said about it: "This is an unauthentic (munkar) hadith." Also, the report mentions the spleen (31), while Ahmad said: "There is no harm in it, and I do not dislike anything from it."
Section: Abu Abd Allah was asked about cheese? He said: "It is eaten from whatever it is." He was asked about the cheese made by the Magians (Zoroastrians)? He said: "I do not know, except that the most authentic hadith regarding it is the hadith of al-A'mash, from Abu Wa'il, from 'Amr ibn Shurahbil, who said: 'Umar was asked about cheese, and it was said to him: "Rennet from a carcass is used in it." He said: "Invoke the name of Allah and eat." Narrated by Abu Mu'awiyah, from al-A'mash (32). He [Ahmad] said: "Is it not that the majority of the cheese we eat is made by the Magians?"
Section: It is not permissible to buy the walnuts that children gamble with, nor the eggs that they gamble with on the day of 'Id; because they take them without right.
Section: Ahmad said: Hospitality is upon all Muslims; whoever a guest descends upon, it is incumbent upon him to

مِنْ هذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ، فَلَا يَقْرَبْنَا حَتَّى يَذْهَبَ رِيحُهَا". فجِئْتُ، فقلتُ: يا رسولَ اللَّه: لِتُعْطِنِى يدَكَ. قال: فأَدْخَلْتُ يدَه فى كُمِّ قَمِيصِى إلى صَدْرِى، فإذا أنا مَعْصُوبُ الصَّدْرِ، فقال: "إنَّ لَكَ عُذْرًا". روَاه أبو داودَ (٢٨). وقد رُوِىَ عن أحمد، أنَّه يأْثَمُ؛ لأنَّ ظاهِرَ النَّهْى التَّحْرِيمُ، ولأنَّ أَذَى المسلمينَ حَرامٌ، وهذا فيه أَذاهُم.
فصل: ويُكْرَهُ أكلُ الغُدَّةِ، وأذُنِ القلبِ (٢٩)؛ لما رُوِىَ عن مُجاهدٍ، قال: كَرِهَ رسولُ اللَّه -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- مِن الشَّاةِ سِتًّا. وذَكَرَ هذَيْن (٣٠). ولأن النَّفْسَ تعافُهما وتَسْتَخْبثُهما، ولا أظُنُّ أحمدَ كَرِهَهُما إلَّا لذلك، لا للخَبَرِ؛ لأَنَّه قال فيه: هذا حَدِيثٌ منكرٌ. ولأنَّ فى الخَبَرِ ذكرُ الطِّحالِ (٣١)، وقد قال أحمدُ: لا بَأْسَ بِه، ولا أَكْرَهُ منه شيئًا.
فصل: وقيلَ لأبى عبدِ اللَّه: الجُبْن؟ قال: يُؤْكَلُ من كلٍّ. وسُئِلَ عن الجُبْنِ الذى يَصْنَعُه الْمَجُوس؟ فقال ما أدْرِى، إلَّا أَنَّ أصَحّ حَدِيثٍ فيه حَدِيثُ الأعْمَش، عن أبى وائِلٍ، عن عَمْرو بن شُرَحْبِيلٍ، قال: سُئِلَ عمرُ عن الْجُبنِ، وقيل له: يُعْمَلُ فيه الإِنْفحَةُ المَيِّتَةُ. فقال: سَمُّوا أنتم، وكُلُوا. روَاه أبو مُعاوِية، عن الأَعْمَشِ (٣٢). وقال: ألَيْسَ الجُبْنُ الذى نَأْكُلُه عامَّتُه يَصْنَعُه الْمَجُوسُ؟
فصل: ولا يجوزُ أَنْ يَشْتَرىَ الجَوْزَ الذى يتَقامَرُ به الصِّبيانُ، ولا البَيْضَ الذى يتَقامَرُون به يومَ العِمِدِ؛ لأنَّهُم يَأْخُذُونَه بغَيرِ حَقٍّ.
فصل: قال أحمدُ: والضِّيافةُ على كلِّ المسلمين، كلُّ مَن نزل عليه ضيفٌ كان عليه أَنْ
