the name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is near you." He said: My eating remained like that ever since. [Agreed upon, and] (51) recorded by Ibn Majah with its meaning, and Abu Dawud (52). Imam Ahmad (53) recorded with his chain of narration from Abu Hurayra, who said: I do not know it except from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said: "For the grateful eater is the like of what is for the patient faster." Ahmad said: Its meaning is that when he eats and drinks, he thanks Allah and praises Him for what He has provided him. From 'Aisha, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "If one of you eats, let him mention the name of Allah, [and if he forgets to mention the name of Allah] (54) at its beginning, let him say: In the name of Allah at its beginning and its end." Recorded by Abu Dawud (55). From Mu'adh ibn Anas, from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that he said: "Whoever eats food and says: Praise be to Allah who [fed me this and provided it to me without any power or strength from me, his past sins will be forgiven." From Abu Sa'id, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say when he ate food: "Praise be to Allah who] (54) fed us, gave us drink, and made us Muslims." From Abu Umama, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say when his food was lifted, or what was before him: "Praise be to Allah, a frequent, blessed praise, neither sufficient [in amount] nor abandoned." Recorded by Ibn Majah (56).
Section: He shall eat with his right hand and drink with it, because Ibn 'Umar narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said: "If one of you eats, let him eat with his right hand, and if he drinks, let him drink with his right hand; for the Devil eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand." Recorded by Muslim, Abu Dawud, and Ibn Majah (57). It is recommended to eat with three fingers, because Ka'b ibn Malik narrated, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to eat with three
