that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade rising from food until it is cleared (68). From Ibn 'Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "When the table is laid, no man should stand up until the table is cleared, and he should not remove his hand, even if he is full, until the people have finished. He should excuse himself [if necessary], for a man may make his dining companion shy, so he withdraws his hand, even though he may still have a need for the food." From Nubaysha, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever eats from a dish and then licks it, the dish will seek forgiveness for him" (70). And from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "None of you should wipe his hand until he has licked it, for he does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies." Ibn Majah recorded these (71).
Section: Abu 'Abdullah was asked about washing the hand with bran (72)? He replied: There is nothing wrong with it; we do it. He was also asked about a man who comes to people while they are eating, suddenly, without having been invited, and when he enters upon them, they invite him [to eat]; should he eat? He said: Yes, there is no harm in it. He was asked about the hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him), that he stored a year's provision for his family (73). Is it authentic? They both said: Yes, but they differ in its wording.

أَنَّ النبِىَّ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم- نَهَى أَنْ يُقامَ عن (٦٨) الطعامِ حتى يُرْفَعَ. وعن ابنِ عمرَ قال: قال رسولُ اللَّه -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم-: "إِذَا وُضِعَتِ الْمَائِدَةُ، فَلَا يَقُومُ (٦٩) رَجُلٌ حَتَّى تُرْفَعَ المائِدَةُ، وَلَا يَرْفَعُ يَدَهُ وإِنْ شَبعَ حَتَّى يَفْرَغَ الْقَوْمُ، ولْيُعْذِرْ، فَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ يُخْجِلُ جَلِيسَهُ، فَيَقْبِضُ يَدَهُ، وعَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ فِى الطَّعَامِ حَاجَةٌ". وعن نُبَيْشَةَ، قال: قال النَّبِىُّ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم-: "مَنْ أَكَلَ فى قَصْعَةٍ، فلَحَسَها، اسْتَغفَرَتْ لَهُ القَصْعَةُ" (٧٠). وعن جابِرٍ قال: قال رسولُ اللَّه -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم-: "لَا يَمْسَحْ أَحَدُكُمْ يَدَهُ حَتَّى يَلْعَقَها، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِى فِى أَىِّ طَعَامِهِ الْبَرَكَةُ". روَاهُنَّ ابنُ ماجَه (٧١).
فصل: وسُئِلَ أبو عبد اللَّه عن غَسْلِ اليدِ بالنُّخالَةِ (٧٢)؟ فقال: لا بَأسَ به، نحنُ نَفْعَلُه. وسُئِلَ عن الرَّجُلِ يأْتِى القومَ، وهم على طَعامٍ، فَجْأَة لم يُدْعَ إليه، فلمَّا دَخَلَ إليهم دَعَوْهُ، هل يَأْكُلُ؟ قال: نعم، وما بَأْسٌ. وسُئِلَ عن حديثِ النَّبِىِّ -صلى اللَّه عليه وسلم-، أَنّه ادَّخَرَ لأَهْلِه قُوتَ سَنَةٍ (٧٣). هو صحيحٌ؟ قالا: نعم، ولكِنَّهم يختلِفُون فى لَفْظِه.
