125 - ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us, from his father, from Abū Thābit, the freed slave of al-Mughīra ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Thaqafī, who said: Ḥuṭayṭ was brought to al-Ḥajjāj at sunset, so he struck his stomach a hundred times and his back a hundred times, then wrapped him in a cloak and threw him into the courtyard.

I said: "Are you thirsty, O Ḥuṭayṭ?"

He said: "By Allah, I am indeed thirsty."

I said: "Shall I give you water to drink?"

He said: "No, I fear that someone will see you and you will be cast into my fate."
