24 - Isḥāq ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us, [saying]: Yaḥyā ibn Sulaym al-Ṭāʾifī narrated to us, [saying]: ʿUmar ibn Yūnus narrated to me, from someone who narrated to him, from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: "Patience is of three types: patience over affliction, patience in obedience, and patience against disobedience. So whoever remains patient over affliction until he turns it back with beautiful solace, God writes for him three hundred ranks, between each rank and the next as between heaven and earth; whoever remains patient in obedience, God writes for him six hundred ranks, between each rank and the next as between the depths of the earth to the end of the Throne; and whoever remains patient against disobedience, God writes for him nine hundred ranks, between each rank and the next as twice between the depths of the earth to the end of the Throne."
