158 - Muhammad ibn al-Mundhir ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz informed us, saying: Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Tirmidhi narrated to us that he said to Abu 'Abd Allah: "If I defend myself and my property, but then my companion is seized and cries out for my help, should I assist him?" He said: "Yes, you should assist him, but do not fight [the aggressor] for it [i.e., your companion's property], because it has not been permitted for you to kill someone for the property of another. It has only been permitted for you to fight them in defense of your own self and your own property."
