282 - Abu Bakr narrated to us, saying: Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah wrote to me regarding this [matter] (246): My father, my uncle Abdullah ibn Muhammad, Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Numayr, Wasil ibn Abd al-A'la, Ubayd ibn Ya'ish, Ja'far ibn Muhammad al-Haddad, Yahya ibn Abd al-Hamid, and Dinar ibn Surad narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Layth, from Mujahid, concerning the verse: {It is expected that your Lord will raise you to a praised station} [al-Isra: 79], he said: "He will seat him upon the Throne." However, Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Numayr said: "He will seat him with Him upon the Throne." Muhammad ibn Uthman said: It has reached me that some of the ignorant people reject this hadith due to their lack of knowledge, in their rebuttal of what was permitted by the scholars who preceded them from among those we have mentioned. I do not know of anyone from whom I have mentioned this hadith except that they accepted the hadith as it came in the report. They were more knowledgeable of the interpretation of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) than those ignorant people who rejected this hadith and claimed that the 'praised station' is [only] intercession and no other station. These are the accounts of the shaykhs and the trustworthy authorities in the City of Peace (Baghdad), Kufa, and elsewhere. Were it not for the fact that it would lengthen the book, we would have added more accounts for you, and in what we have written there is sufficiency for those whom Allah wills, if Allah wills.
