284 - Abu Bakr said: I heard Harun ibn al-Abbas al-Hashimi asking Abu Ja'far al-Daqiqi, Muhammad ibn Abd al-Malik al-Rida al-'Adl, while he was in his gathering in Baghdad in front of all the people: "What do you say regarding this Tirmidhi who rejected the merit of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) [contained in] the hadith of Ibn Fudayl, from Layth, from Mujahid?" He said: "Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated it to us fifty years ago; the ruling for whoever rejects this hadith is that he should be banished; no one rejects this hadith except the heretics (zanadiqah)."
٢٨٤ - قَالَ: أَبُو بَكْرٍ: وَسَمِعْتُ هَارُونَ بْنَ الْعَبَّاسِ الْهَاشِمِيَّ، يَسْأَلُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ الدَّقِيقِيَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الرِّضَا الْعَدْلَ حِينَ قَدِمَ إِلَى بَغْدَادَ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ عَلَى رُءُوسِ النَّاسِ: مَا تَقُولُ فِي هَذَا التِّرْمِذِيِّ الَّذِي رَدَّ فَضِيلَةَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، حَدِيثَ ابْنِ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ. قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَاهُ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ مُنْذُ خَمْسِينَ سَنَةً، «حُكْمُ مَنْ رَدَّ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ أَنْ يُنْفَى، لَا يَرُدُّ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ إِلَّا الزَّنَادِقَةُ»
