344 - Muhammad informed us, saying: Waki' informed us, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, who said: 'Umar said: "Whom shall I appoint as successor? If only Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah were alive." A man said to him: "O Commander of the Faithful? What about 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar?" He replied: "May Allah fight you! By Allah, you did not intend Allah with that. Shall I appoint as successor a man who could not even properly divorce his wife?"
٣٤٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالَ: أنا وَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُمَرُ: " مَنْ أَسْتَخْلِفُ؟ لَوْ كَانَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ؟ فَأَيْنَ أَنْتَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ؟ فَقَالَ: قَاتَلَكَ اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتَ بِهَا اللَّهَ، أَسْتَخْلِفُ رَجُلًا لَمْ يُحْسِنْ يُطَلِّقُ امْرَأَتَهُ "
