59 - Muhammad informed us, saying: Waki' informed us, from Isra'il, from Ibn Abi Tamimah, from 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah, who heard it from him: That 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), when he would send out a military detachment, he would appoint a man in charge of its command and say: "I enjoin you to fear Allah, whom you must inevitably meet, and besides whom there is no final destination for you; He possesses the world and the Hereafter. You must adhere to that for which I have sent you, and you must adhere to that which brings you closer to Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He), for whatever is with Allah is a substitute for the world."
٥٩ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَ وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ سَمِعَهُ مِنْهُ: أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ كَانَ إِذَا بَعَثَ سَرِيَّةً وَلَّى أَمْرَهَا رَجُلًا، فَقَالَ: «أُوصِيكَ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا بُدَّ لَكَ مِنْ لِقَائِهِ، وَلَا مُنْتَهَى لَكَ دُونَهُ، وَهُوَ يَمْلِكُ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةَ، وَعَلَيْكَ بِالَّذِي بَعَثْتُكَ لَهُ، وَعَلَيْكَ بِالَّذِي يُقَرِّبُكَ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، فَإِنَّ مَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَلَفٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا»
