507 - Muhammad ibn Ali informed us, saying: Salih narrated to us that he asked his father about someone who does not grant merit (tafdil) to Abu Bakr and Umar over others. He replied: "The Sunnah according to us regarding merit is what Ibn Umar said: 'While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was alive, we used to count Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman, and then remain silent.'"
