549 - And 'Imran ibn Bakkar narrated to us: Abu Taqi narrated to us: 'Abd Allah ibn Salim narrated to us, from al-Zubaydi: al-Zuhri informed me: Salim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar informed me that 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar said: "A man from the Ansar came to me during the caliphate of 'Uthman to speak to me, and it turned out he was urging me in his speech to find fault with 'Uthman. He spoke at length, and he was a man with a stutter in his tongue, and he could barely finish his speech clearly. He said: When he finished his speech, I said: 'We used to say while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was alive: The best of the nation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) after him are Abu Bakr, then 'Umar, then 'Uthman. And by Allah, we do not know 'Uthman to have killed a soul unjustly, nor did he commit any of the major sins. Rather, it is this wealth; if he gives it to you, you are pleased, and if he gives it to his relatives, you are angered. You only want to be like the Persians and the Romans; they do not leave a leader without killing him.' He said: Then his eyes overflowed with four tears. He said: 'O Allah, we do not wish for that.'"
٥٤٩ - وَحَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، ثَنَا أَبُو تَقِيٍّ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ، أَخْبَرَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَالَ: جَاءَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فِي خِلَافَةِ عُثْمَانَ يُكَلِّمُنِي، فَإِذَا هُوَ يَأْمُرُنِي فِي كَلَامِهِ أَنْ أَعْيَبَ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ، فَتَكَلَّمَ كَلَامًا طَوِيلًا، وَهُوَ امْرُؤٌ فِي لِسَانِهِ ثِقَلٌ، فَلَمْ يَكَدْ يَقْضِي كَلَامَهُ فِي سَرِيحٍ قَالَ: فَلَمَّا قَضَى كَلَامَهُ، قُلْتُ: إِنَّا كُنَّا نَقُولُ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَيُّ: أَفْضَلُ أُمَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَهُ: أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ثُمَّ عُمَرُ، ثُمَّ عُثْمَانُ، وَإِنَّا وَاللَّهِ مَا نَعْلَمُ عُثْمَانَ قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ، وَلَا جَاءَ مِنَ الْكَبَائِرِ شَيْئًا، وَلَكِنْ هُوَ هَذَا الْمَالُ إِنْ أَعْطَاكُمُوهُ رَضِيتُمْ، وَإِنْ أَعْطَاهُ أُولِي قَرَابَتِهِ سَخِطْتُمْ، إِنَّمَا تُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تَكُونُوا كَفَارِسَ وَالرُّومِ، لَا يَتْرُكُونَ لَهُمْ أَمِيرًا إِلَّا قَتَلُوهُ ⦗٣٨٨⦘، قَالَ: فَفَاضَتْ عَيْنَاهُ بِأَرْبَعٍ مِنَ الدَّمْعِ، قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ لَا نُرِيدُ ذَلِكَ "
