564 - Muhammad ibn Musa informed us, saying: Abu Ja'far Hamdan ibn 'Ali said: I heard Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] say: Yazid ibn Harun used to say: "It does not matter whom you prioritize: 'Ali over 'Uthman, or 'Uthman over 'Ali." Abu 'Abd Allah said: "As for this now, I do not know how it is, and the generality of the people of Wasit used to lean towards Tashayyu' [Shi'ism]."
٥٦٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ حَمْدَانُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ: وَكَانَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ يَقُولُ: " لَا تُبَالِي مَنْ قَدَّمْتَ، عَلِيٌّ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ، أَوْ عُثْمَانَ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ: وَهَذَا الْآنَ لَا أَدْرِي كَيْفَ هُوَ، وَكَانَ عَامَّةُ أَهْلِ وَاسِطٍ يَتَشَيَّعُونَ "
