411 - Muhammad ibn al-Husayn informed me that al-Fadl narrated to them, saying: I wrote to Abu 'Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal] asking him about the statement of Ibn Sirin: 'They did not differ regarding the crescent moons until 'Uthman was killed.' What is its meaning? The answer came to me: 'I do not know, leave it.'
٤١١ - أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، أَنَّ الْفَضْلَ حَدَّثَهُمْ قَالَ: كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ قَوْلِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ: " كَانُوا لَا يَخْتَلِفُونَ فِي الْأَهِلَّةِ حَتَّى قُتِلَ عُثْمَانُ مَا مَعْنَاهُ؟ فَأَتَانِي الْجَوَابُ: لَا أَدْرِي، دَعْهُ "
