929 - Abu Bakr al-Marwudhi informed us, saying: I heard some of the shaykhs say: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi say: 'Sufyan al-Thawri disapproved of the word "jabara" (compelled) and said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, fashioned (jabala) the servants."' Abu Bakr al-Marwudhi said: 'I think he intended the saying of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to the Ashajj of 'Abd al-Qays.'
٩٢٩ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْمَرُّوذِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ بَعْضَ الْمَشْيَخَةِ، تَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ مَهْدِيٍّ، يَقُولُ: أَنْكَرَهُ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ جَبَرَ، وَقَالَ: اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ جَبَلَ الْعِبَادَ "، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْمَرُّوذِيُّ: أَظُنُّهُ أَرَادَ قَوْلَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ⦗٥٥٤⦘ لِأَشَجِّ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ
