795 - Al-Duri informed me, saying: I heard Abu Ubayd al-Qasim ibn Sallam saying: "I have associated with people and spoken to the proponents of dialectical theology (Ahl al-Kalam) and others, and I have not seen any [group] filthier in filth, nor dirtier in dirt, nor weaker in proof, nor more foolish than the Rafida (the rejectors). I was once appointed to the judiciary of the frontier lands (al-thughur), and I banished from among them three men: two Jahmis and one Rafidi, or two Rafidis and one Jahmi, and I said: 'People like you shall not dwell among the people of the frontier.' So I expelled them."
٧٩٥ - أَخْبَرَنِي الدُّورِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عُبَيْدٍ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ سَلَّامٍ، يَقُولُ: " عَاشَرْتُ النَّاسَ وَكَلَّمْتُ أَهْلَ الْكَلَامِ، وَكَذَا، فَمَا رَأَيْتُ أَوْسَخَ وَسَخًا، وَلَا أَقْذَرَ قَذَرًا , وَلَا أَضْعَفَ حُجَّةً، وَلَا أَحْمَقَ مِنَ الرَّافِضَةِ ⦗٥٠٠⦘، وَلَقَدْ وُلِّيتُ قَضَاءَ الثُّغُورِ، فَنَفَيْتُ مِنْهُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ رِجَالٍ جَهْمِيِّينَ وَرَافِضِيًّا، أَوْ رَافِضِيَّيْنِ وَجَهْمِيًّا، وَقُلْتُ: مِثْلُكُمْ لَا يُسَاكِنُ أَهْلَ الثُّغُورِ، فَأَخْرَجْتُهُمْ "
