1034 - 'Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Harun informed me, saying: Muhammad ibn Abi Harun narrated to me, saying: I heard Ja'far ibn Ahmad ibn Sam, from Ahmad ibn Hanbal, who said: The companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said when the qibla was turned toward the Ka'bah: "What about our prayers that we prayed toward it [the previous qibla]?" So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: {And Allah would never make your faith to be lost} [Al-Baqarah: 143]. I heard Ahmad ibn Hanbal say: "Thus, He designated their prayer as faith (iman); therefore, prayer is part of faith."
١٠٣٤ - أَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ هَارُونَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي هَارُونَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سَامٍ، عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ ⦗٥٨٩⦘، قَالَ: قَالَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ حُوِّلَتِ الْقِبْلَةُ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ: «فَكَيْفَ بِصَلَاتِنَا الَّتِي صَلَّيْنَا إِلَيْهَا؟» ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: {وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ} [البقرة: ١٤٣] ، فَسَمِعْتُ أَحْمَدَ بْنَ حَنْبَلٍ يَقُولُ: «فَجَعَلَ صَلَاتَهُمْ إِيمَانًا، فَالصَّلَاةُ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ»
