803 - Al-Abbas ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim informed me, saying: I heard Ja'far al-Tayalisi saying: I heard Yahya ibn Ma'in saying: 'They were with Abd al-Razzaq: Ahmad, Khalaf, and another man. When the narrations regarding the faults [of the Companions] passed by, Ahmad ibn Hanbal placed his fingers in his ears for a long time until some of the narrations had passed. Then he took them out, and then he put them back in until all the narrations had passed,' or as he said.
