845 - Muhammad ibn 'Ali informed me, saying: Muhanna related to us, saying: I asked Ahmad about Yazid ibn Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan. He said: "Did he do in Medina what he did?" I said: "And what did he do?" He said: "He killed in Medina [people] from the Companions of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and did such and such." I said: "And what did he do?" He said: "He plundered it." I said: "Should any Hadith be narrated from him?" He said: "No Hadith should be narrated from him, and it is not fitting for anyone to record a Hadith from him." I said to Ahmad: "And who was with him in Medina when he did what he did?" He said: "The people of al-Sham." I said to him: "And the people of Egypt?" He said: "No, the people of Egypt were only with them in the affair of 'Uthman (may Allah have mercy on him)."
٨٤٥ - أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: ثَنَا مُهَنَّى، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، قَالَ: هُوَ فَعَلَ بِالْمَدِينَةَ مَا فَعَلَ؟ قُلْتُ: وَمَا فَعَلَ؟ قَالَ: قَتَلَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفَعَلَ، قُلْتُ: وَمَا فَعَلَ؟ قَالَ: نَهَبَهَا، قُلْتُ: فَيُذْكَرُ عَنْهُ الْحَدِيثُ؟ قَالَ: لَا يُذْكَرُ عَنْهُ الْحَدِيثُ، وَلَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ عَنْهُ حَدِيثًا، قُلْتُ لِأَحْمَدَ: وَمَنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ حِينَ فَعَلَ مَا فَعَلَ؟ قَالَ: أَهْلُ الشَّامِ؟ قُلْتُ لَهُ: وَأَهْلُ مِصْرَ، قَالَ: لَا، إِنَّمَا كَانَ أَهْلُ مِصْرَ مَعَهُمْ فِي أَمْرِ عُثْمَانَ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ
