1342 - Abu 'Abd Allah narrated to us, he said: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Ashhab narrated to us, from al-Hasan, that a man said in the presence of 'Abd Allah—meaning Ibn Mas'ud—: "I am a believer." It was said to Ibn Mas'ud: "O Ibn Mas'ud, this man claims that he is a believer?" He replied: "Then ask him: Is he in Paradise or in the Fire?" They asked him, and he said: "Allah knows best." 'Abd Allah then said to him: "Why did you not entrust the former [statement] to Him as you entrusted the latter?"
