1406 - Abu 'Abd Allah narrated to us, he said: Waki' narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Ullathah narrated to me, from 'Abd al-Karim al-Jazari, from Ziyad ibn Abi Maryam, who said: Sa'd ibn Malik went out with one of the armies of the Muslims, and a gazelle suddenly appeared to his right (sanahat). A man among his companions came to him and said: 'Turn back, O Commander.' Sa'd said to him: 'From what thing have you derived an evil omen? Is it from its horns when it approached, or from its tail when it departed? Proceed, for taking omens is shirk (polytheism).'
