1087 - Muhammad ibn Ali informed me, saying: Abu Bakr al-Athram narrated to us, saying: I said to Abu Abd Allah: "What about when one says 'I am a Muslim' and does not add the exception (istithna')?" He replied: "Yes, he does not add the exception when he says: 'I am a Muslim'." I said to Abu Abd Allah: "Should I say 'This is a Muslim', whereas the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: 'The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe', and I know that people are not safe from him?"
