1681 - Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath informed us, saying: Abdullah ibn Makhlad narrated to us, saying: Makki ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Shibl narrated to us, saying: I was sitting with Muqatil ibn Sulayman and Abbad ibn Kathir, when a young man came and said: What do you say regarding His saying: "Everything is perishable except His Countenance" [Al-Qasas: 88]? Muqatil said: "This is a Jahmi." Then he said: "Woe to you! By Allah, Jahm has never performed Hajj to this House, nor has he sat with scholars; he was merely a man who was given a tongue."
