1772 - Muhammad ibn Musa informed me that Hamdan ibn Ali narrated to them, saying: I heard Ahmad saying: "The Jahmiyyah say: 'If one recognizes his Lord with his heart, even if his limbs do not perform deeds,' meaning: 'he is a believer.' This is the disbelief of Iblis, for he recognized his Lord with his heart, and [yet] said: 'My Lord, because You have misled me' [Al-Hijr: 39]."
١٧٧٢ - أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، أَنَّ حَمْدَانَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَهُمْ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَحْمَدَ، يَقُولُ: الْجَهْمِيَّةُ تَقُولُ: إِذَا عَرَفَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبِهِ، وَإِنْ لَمْ تَعْمَلْ جَوَارِحُهُ يَعْنِي، فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ، وَهَذَا كُفْرُ إِبْلِيسَ، قَدْ عَرَفَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبِهِ، فَقَالَ: {رَبِّ بِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي} [الحجر: ٣٩] "
