1780 - Mansur ibn al-Walid informed me that Ja'far ibn Muhammad narrated to them, saying: I said to Abu Abd Allah [Ahmad ibn Hanbal]: Ibn Abi Umar said to me, 'Some people from the people of Baghdad came to me today, so I said to them: Whoever says, "The Qur'an is created," the Waqifah [those who suspend judgment on the issue of the Qur'an], and the Lafziyyah [those who say their recitation of the Qur'an is created] are all one and the same.' He [Abu Abd Allah] replied: "May Allah bless him," saying it three times. I said to Abu Abd Allah: I heard Harun ibn Ishaq saying: "Whoever says: The Qur'an is created, the Waqifah, and the Lafziyyah are all Jahmiyyah." This pleased him, and he said: "May Allah grant him well-being and reward him with good."
