1544 - Abu Abd Allah narrated to us, saying: Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Ghalib narrated to us, from Bakr ibn Abd Allah, who said: "If I were to arrive at this mosque while it was crowded with its people, filled with men, and it was said to me: 'Which of these is the best?' I would say to my questioner: 'Do you know who is the most sincere among them to them?' If he knew that, I would know that he is the best of them. And if I were to arrive at the mosque while it was crowded with its people, filled with men, and it was said to me: 'Which of these is the worst?' I would say to my questioner: 'Do you know who is the most deceptive among them to them?' If he knew that, I would know that he is the worst of them. And I would not testify regarding their best that he is a believer with complete faith, for if I were to testify, I would be testifying that he is in Paradise. And I would not testify regarding their worst that he is a hypocrite devoid of faith, for if I were to testify against him with that, I would be testifying that he is in the Fire. Rather, I fear for their best and I have hope for their worst. So, if I fear for their best, how great must my fear be for their worst? And if I have hope for their worst, how great is my hope for their best? Thus is the Sunnah."

١٥٤٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، قَالَ: ثنا غَالِبٌ، عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: " لَوِ انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُوَ غَاصٌّ بِأَهْلِهِ، مُفْعَمٌ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ، فَقِيلَ لِي: أَيُّ هَؤُلَاءِ أَخْيَرُ؟ لَقُلْتُ لِسَائِلِي: أَتَعْرِفُ أَنْصَحَهُمْ لَهُمْ؟ فَإِنْ عَرَفَهُ، عَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ خَيْرُهُمْ. وَلَوِ انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُوَ غَاصٌّ بِأَهْلِهِ، مُفْعَمٌ بِالرِّجَالِ، فَقِيلَ لِي: أَيُّ هَؤُلَاءِ شَرٌّ؟ لَقُلْتُ لِسَائِلِي: أَتَعْرِفُ أَغَشَّهُمْ لَهُمْ؟ فَإِنْ عَرَفَهُ، عَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ شَرُّهُمْ، وَمَا كُنْتُ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى خَيْرِهِمْ أَنَّهُ مُؤْمِنٌ مُسْتَكْمِلٌ الْإِيمَانَ، وَلَوْ شَهِدْتُ لَشَهِدْتُ أَنَّهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَمَا كُنْتُ لِأَشْهَدَ عَلَى شَرِّهِمْ أَنَّهُ مُنَافِقٌ بَرِيءٌ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ، وَلَوْ شَهِدْتُ عَلَيْهِ بِذَلِكَ، شَهِدْتُ أَنَّهُ فِي النَّارِ، وَلَكِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَى خَيْرِهِمْ , وَأَرْجُو لِشَرِّهِمْ، فَإِذَا أَنَا خِفْتُ عَلَى خَيْرِهِمْ، فَكَمْ عَسَى خَوْفِي عَلَى شَرِّهِمْ؟ وَإِذَا رَجَوْتُ لِشَرِّهِمْ، كَمْ رَجَائِي لِخَيْرِهِمْ؟ هَكَذَا السُّنَّةُ "
