ترجمة آلية143 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Shaqīq narrated to us: Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ashʿath informed us: A Sheikh from Nakhaʿ narrated to me, from some of his elders among the companions of ʿAbd Allāh, that
ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd said: "It is sufficient evidence of the weakness of a man's religion that he has many friends." (1).

- (1) Its chain of transmission is Da'if (Weak): Ibn Abī al-Dunyā reported it in al-Tawāḍuʿ (41), with its chain of transmission and text, in which is "testing a man's religion". Its chain of transmission contains unknown narrators. However, it is authentically established as a statement of al-Thawrī, reported by Ibn Abī Ḥātim in Muqaddimat al-Jarḥ wa-l-Taʿdīl (1/94) and Abū Nuʿaym in al-Ḥilya (8/19), and this is what is correct.
