152 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us: Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us: Jarīr narrated to us, from Layth, from Ṭāwūs, from Umm Mālik al-Bahziyya, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of God be upon him, mentioned tribulations and said: "The best of you during them, or the best of people during them, is a man who withdraws to his property worshipping his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, or a man holding the reins of his horse, striking fear into the enemy while they strike fear into him." (1).

It was transmitted by Isḥāq ibn Rāhawayh in his Musnad, no. (2325), Aḥmad (6/419), al-Ṭabarānī in his al-Kabīr (= [64] = vol. 25, no. 360–362), and Ibn Mandah in al-Ṣaḥāba as in al-Iṣāba (4/494), from the route of Layth ibn Abī Sulaym, with it. And Ibn Mandah said: "Jarīr and others narrated it from Layth; and Muḥammad ibn Juḥāda narrated it from a man said to be Layth; he said: And al-Nuʿmān ibn al-Mundhir narrated it from Makḥūl, from Umm Mālik."
I say: Muḥammad ibn Juḥāda narrated it; al-Tirmidhī transmitted it (2177) and said: "And in the chapter from: Umm Mubashshir, Abū Saʿīd, and Ibn ʿAbbās," and he said: "This is a hadith that is Hasan (Good) Singular from this route," and he said: "And al-Layth narrated it, and the narration of al-Nuʿmān is from Ṭāwūs, from Umm Mālik al-Bahziyya, from the Prophet Peace and blessings of God be upon him." End quote.
ʿAlī ibn Baḥr, from Suwayd ibn Saʿīd, from al-Nuʿmān, with it. And Suwayd is Da'if (Weak) in hadith.

And the hadith is Sahih (Authentic) through corroborating testimonies; among them: from Umm Mubashshir, and it has preceded under no. (12); Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, preceded under no. (15); and Ibn ʿAbbās under no. (70, 101).
So through these corroborating testimonies the hadith is Sahih (Authentic), and praise be to God alone.

خَيْرُ النَّاسِ١٥٢ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثَنا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ مَالِكٍ الْبَهْزِيَّةِ، قَالَتْ: ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ، الْفِتَنَ، فَقَالَ: " خَيْرُكُمْ فِيهَا، أَوْ خَيْرُ النَّاسِ فِيهَا: رَجُلٌ مُعْتَزِلٌ فِي مَالِهِ يَعْبُدُ رَبَّهُ، ﷿، أَوْ رَجُلٌ آخِذٌ بِفَرَسِهِ يُخِيفُ الْعَدُوَّ وَيُخِيفُونَهُ " (١) .

(١) إسناده ضعيف، والحديث صحيح:أخرجه إسحاق بن راهويه في " مسنده " برقم (٢٣٢٥) ، وأحمد (٦/٤١٩) ، والطبراني في " كبيره "= ⦗٦٤⦘ = ٥ج٢٥ رقم ٣٦٠ ـ ٣٦٢) ، وابن منده في " الصحابة " كما في " الإصابة " (٤/٤٩٤) ، من طريق ليث بن أبي سليم، به. وقال ابن منده: " رواه جرير في آخرين عن ليث،: ورواه محمد بن جحادة، عن رجل يقال إنه: ليث؛ قال: وروى النعمان بن المنذر، عن مكحول، عن أم مالك ".قُلْتُ: رواه محمد بن جحادة؛ أخرجها الترمذي (٢١٧٧) ، وقال: " وفي الباب عن: أم مبشر، وأبي سعيد، وابن عباس "، وقال: " هذا حديث حسن غريب من هذا الوجه "، وقال: " وقد رواه الليث ورواية النعمان، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ مَالِكٍ البهزية، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ " اهـ.عليّ بن بحر، عن سويد بن سعيد، عن النعمان، به. وسويد، ضعيف الحديث.قلت: ومدار هذا الحديث على: ليث بن أبي سليم، ضعيف الحديث.والحديث صحيح بشواهد؛ منها: عن أم مبشر، وقد تقدم برقم (١٢) ، وأبي سعيد الخذري، تقدم برقم (١٥) ، وان عباس برقم (٧٠، ١٠١) .فبهذه الشواهد يصح الحديث، والحمد لله وحده.
