5 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us: Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Malik narrated to me: Yaḥyā ibn Bukayr narrated to us: Ibn Lahīʿa narrated to me: Bakr ibn Sawāda narrated to me, from Sahl ibn Saʿd al-Sāʿidī, who said: I heard the Messenger of God, Peace and blessings of God be upon him, saying: "Indeed, the most admirable of people to me is a man who believes in God and His Messenger, establishes the Prayer, pays the Zakat, maintains his wealth, preserves his religion, and secludes himself from people." As for whoever weakens it because of Ibn Lahīʿa, he has erred, for one of his early companions who narrated from him before his books burned and he mixed up his memory narrated it from him, namely Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Bukayr, and he is truthful (ṣadūq), good in hadith (ḥasan al-ḥadīth); see: "Suʾālāt Ibn Bukayr" by al-Dāraquṭnī (text 27), "Man Tukullima Fīhi Wa-Huwa Muwaththaq" by al-Dhahabī (no. 374), and "Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ" also by al-Dhahabī (10/614); and the man is among the narrators of the two Sheikhs. [p. 18] And the hadith was uniquely transmitted by Ibn Abī al-Dunyā, and al-Mundhirī attributed it to him in his "al-Targhīb" (3/275).
