27 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, he said: Muḥammad ibn Abī Ḥātim al-Azdī narrated to me, he said: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dāwūd mention from al-Awzāʿī, from Makḥūl, who said: "If virtue lies in congregation, then safety lies in seclusion." (1)

And al-Auzāʿī was supported; he was supported by Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, from Makḥūl, with it: Transmitted by Ibn Ḥibbān in Rawḍat al-ʿUqalāʾ (p. 185), and al-Bayhaqī in al-Zuhd (125), via Abū Mushir from Saʿīd, with it.
