57 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, he said: Muḥammad ibn Hārūn narrated to me, Yaʿqūb ibn Kaʿb narrated to us, my father narrated to us, on the authority of Sulaymān al-Khawwāṣ, he said: It was said to him: "The people have complained about you, that you pass by and do not greet them with peace." So he said: "By God, that is not out of any merit I see in myself; rather, I am like a privy—if you stir it up, it rises; and if I sit with people, there comes from me what I intend and what I do not intend."
