63 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, he said: Al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ narrated to me, he said: Maysara ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us, from Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Anṭākī, he said: ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz said: "The mosques used to consist of three types of people: a type that is silent and safe, a type engaged in the remembrance of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and that remembrance ascends, and a type engaged in prayer, and prayer has light from Allah. Then worthless successors followed from the quarters of dwellings and the gatherings of markets; the substance of their discourse and the targets of their conjectures became indulging in backbiting for amusement and benefiting one another with slander."
