Narrations of Mālik Concerning Those Who Chose Seclusion

71 - ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us: Al-ʿAbbās ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us: Al-Ḥārith ibn Miskīn narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb informed us: Mālik ibn Anas narrated to me, he said: "The people who passed away used to love seclusion and solitude away from people. Sālim Abū al-Naḍr used to do that; he would come to the circle of Rabīʿa and sit in it, and they liked that of him. Then, when talk increased in it and people multiplied, he would stand up and leave them."

Mālik said: "The people were adherents of seclusion, and Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, the orphan of ʿUrwa, was a man of seclusion, Hajj, and military expedition."
