"we worship" for it, (1) and that the correct way is for "You" to be with it, since every word among them forms the predicate of a subject; and the rule governing this is clearly different from the rule governing "between" in the comparison made between them by the one whose opinion we described.

The commentary on the interpretation of His saying: ﴿Guide us﴾.

Abū Jaʿfar said: The meaning of His saying: {Guide us to the straight path}, in this context according to us is: grant us success to remain firm upon it, as that was narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās:

173 - Abū Kurayb narrated to us, saying: ʿUthmān ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, saying: Bishr ibn ʿUmāra narrated to us, saying: Abū Rawq narrated to us, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbbās, he said: Gabriel said to Muḥammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him: "Say, O Muḥammad: {Guide us to the straight path}." He says: Inspire us with the guiding path. (2)

And His inspiring him with that is His granting him success in it, as we said in its interpretation. Its meaning is similar to the meaning of His saying: "You we ask for help", in that it is a servant asking his Lord for success to remain firm in performing obedience to Him, and attaining truth and correctness in what He commanded him and forbade him from in the future of his life, apart from what has already passed of his deeds and expired in the previous part of his life. Just as in His saying: "You we ask for help", there is a request from him to his Lord for assistance in performing what He has obligated him with of His obedience during the remainder of his life.

Thus the meaning of the speech is: O Allah, You alone we worship, having no partner with You, dedicating worship sincerely to You to the exclusion of all other gods and idols, so help us in worshipping You, and grant us success in that to which
